Which Travel Vaccines Are Required vs Recommended?
Required
A country can refuse entry without proof of vaccination. Yellow fever is almost the only vaccine required in this way. The requirement is usually triggered by travelling through a country with yellow fever risk rather than by your destination itself.
Recommended
No proof of vaccination is needed at the border, but the illness is present at your destination and vaccination reduces your risk. For example, hepatitis A and typhoid are recommended for most of Asia. Whether others apply to you depends on your itinerary, how long you are staying and what you will be doing.
Singapore requires a yellow fever certificate if you have recently travelled to a country with yellow fever risk. It follows your route, not your destination, so it can apply even when the country you are visiting has no risk. More about the yellow fever vaccine.
