What Is Yellow Fever?

Yellow fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic illness spread by infected mosquitoes, especially the Aedes aegypti species. The virus is commonly found in tropical areas of Africa, Central, and South America.

Singapore Women's Clinic is licensed by the Ministry of Health (MOH) to provide Yellow Fever vaccinations. The vaccine is available at our clinics at $228.90 per dose.

Yellow Fever Vaccination Requirements in Singapore

As Singapore is free from yellow fever, specific entry requirements are in place to reduce the risk of the disease being introduced or spreading locally.

All travellers — including Singapore residents — who have visited countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission must hold a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate within the six days before arriving in Singapore.

This certificate must be shown to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer at the immigration counter upon arrival.

When to Get Vaccinated Against Yellow Fever?

It is recommended to receive the vaccination at least 10 days before your trip to allow sufficient time for your body to build immunity.

Upon vaccination, you will be issued a hard copy of the International Certificate of Vaccination, which is globally recognised and provided at no additional cost.

How Is the Yellow Fever Vaccine Administered?

The Yellow Fever vaccine is administered as an intramuscular injection, typically in the upper arm.

Singapore Women's Clinic issues an International Certificate of Vaccination free of charge after yellow fever vaccination.

How Long Does the Yellow Fever Vaccine Last?

A single dose of the Yellow Fever vaccine offers lifelong protection for most individuals. However, a booster shot may be necessary for some people, particularly those travelling to regions with a higher risk of transmission.

What Are the Side Effects of the Yellow Fever Vaccine?

Most people experience only mild side effects from the yellow fever vaccine, such as headaches, muscle aches, or low-grade fevers. In rare cases, serious reactions can occur, including severe allergic responses that may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing.
