Shenzhen is a working city for most people who visit, whether that is factories, electronics at Huaqiangbei or a crossing over from Hong Kong for the day. Trips tend to be short and repeated.

Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, MMR and typhoid still apply, and hepatitis A is worth having once if you expect to come back several times a year. Japanese encephalitis and rabies belong to rural travel rather than to business in the city. A doctor can advise on which of these you need, based on where you are going and how long you are staying.

At Singapore Women's Clinic, we provide a range of travel vaccinations, preventive medication and travel health advice for solo travellers and families alike.

Checking Your Immunity Before Vaccination

If you were vaccinated as a child, or you think you have had the illness before, a blood test can check whether you are still protected before you book a vaccine. We can test immunity to hepatitis A, hepatitis B and measles. Where a result shows you are protected, the dose may not be needed. Results take a few days, so allow for that when you plan your appointments.

Vaccination Certificate Requirements for Entry and Re-Entry

Whether you need a certificate depends on the countries you pass through or come from. Before you travel, check your full route against the current list of countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission published by Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority.

Entering China

No certificate is needed if you arrive directly from Singapore, or from any country without yellow fever risk.

  • It is required from age 9 months if you arrive from a country with risk, including airport transits of more than 12 hours there.
  • Exempt if your itinerary is limited to Hong Kong SAR or Macao SAR.

Returning to Singapore

Singapore requires a yellow fever certificate if you have recently travelled to a country with yellow fever risk. It follows your route, not your destination, so it can apply even when the country you are visiting has no risk.

  • Applies to all travellers, including Singapore residents, of any nationality.
  • Includes airport transits of more than 12 hours in an affected country.
  • Valid from 10 days after vaccination, then for life.
  • Without a valid certificate you may be quarantined for six days under the Infectious Diseases Act, counted from the date you left the affected country.
  • Exempt: Children aged one year and below; Travellers with a medical contraindication to the vaccine.
